Jurriaen Andriessen, born at Amsterdam on 12 July 1742, was a scholar of A. Elliger, and J. M. Quinkhardt. He was an able artist in decorative painting; the decorations of the new theatre at Amsterdam were executed by him and Numan.〔(Jurriaan Andriessen ) in the RKD〕 His daughter later married the actor Coenraad van Hulst.〔 Several distinguished modern Dutch painters are from his school. His pupils were besides his brother Anthonie and son Christiaan, the following artists: Pieter Godfried Bertichen, Jan Bulthuis, Floris Croese, Chrétien Dubois, Daniël Dupré, Arend Johan van Glinstra, Jean Grandjean, Cornelia Aletta van Hulst, Jacques Kuyper, Gerrit Jan Michaëlis, Hermanus Numan, Abraham Johannes Ruytenschildt, Jacobus Schoemaker Doyer, Wouter Johannes van Troostwijk, Izaak Vaarzon Morel, Hendrik Voogd, Gerardus Wieringa, and Johannes Ziesenis.
